What (if there are any) are some disadvantages to having a racing bike for mainly trail riding?

Question: What (if there are any) are some disadvantages to having a racing bike for mainly trail riding?
I currently have a TT-R 225 and would eventually like a 250, but most manufacturers don’t make a 250 trail bike. My favourite manufacturer is Kawasaki and i was thinkin of a kx 250f. But what differences will i find in the trail on the racing bike. What differences in general?

Riding a cyclocross bike on the road?

Question: Riding a cyclocross bike on the road?
My road bike will be getting repaired so I will be riding my friend’s cyclocross bike for a couple weeks. What can I expect when riding a cross bike on the road? What are the differences?

Not much…..Maybe a slightly more upright riding position, depending on the model of bike. Also slightly higher rolling resistance, because cross bikes typically run wider tires than true road bikes.

What type of bicycle can be used for light mountain biking and riding around my neighborhood?

Question: What type of bicycle can be used for light mountain biking and riding around my neighborhood?
I am looking for a bike that I can use not only for easy mountain biking trails, but also for riding around my neighborhood. I have seen hybrid bikes and Im not totally sure what those are. Can someone please help me or point me in the right direction!!! Thanks

Answer:

Answer by agb90spruce
You sound like a candidate for a hybrid. They are called that because they are a cross between a road and mountain bike. The frame is similar to a mountain bike. Wheels are the same diameter as road bikes (700C) but narrower and tires have less aggressive treads than a true mountain bike. They often have front (and maybe seat) suspension, but they will usually have mountain bike style handlebars and gears. They are well suited to city roads, bike paths and hardpack trails, but being a hybrid are less suited to long, fast road rides than a road bike or to rough/demanding trails than a mountain bike. See the article at the link.

Recommendation for Cyclocross Bike for Winter Road Riding?

Question: Recommendation for Cyclocross Bike for Winter Road Riding?
I am a road rider, but the roads in the area I usually ride in (upstate NY) are full of sand and salt at this time of year, so I don’t want to ride my usual road bike. So, I’m looking for a second bike, most likely a cyclocross bike, that I can use to get 25 or 30 miles in on winter days and not worry so much about grit and salt. Any suggestions?

trek x0 is a good start, i’m in scotland and cycle cross bikes are well common for race guys getting through the winter, built two of these in our shop and well nice bike with good kit for the cash too. built some very high end bikes too for scottish champ and reckon there’s not much in it between them really.
