best cyclocross “full suspension” bike for less than $1,500?

Question: best cyclocross “full suspension” bike for less than ,500?
I’m looking for a “full suspension” cyclocross bike that gives you that “tight, just right” shock absorption without actual efficiency draining shocks (not sure if cyclocross even has shocks per se)…for under $ 1,500. Will be riding on the street about 7 miles per day and off road about 7 miles a day as well: off road for me = mostly dirt, sand, gravel, some mud but little in the way of rocks and roots. Thanks.

I answered this for you privately already. What you want here does not exist. Cyclocross bikes do not have shocks either rear or front that I am aware of. That said this is a bike of that type: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1073267_-1_45500_20000_45501 and most all of these will have the road bike geometry …not mtn bike geometry. I think an XC bike in your price range with a Fox RP2 shock would be best, it will have the option of a near lock-out in the rear with any other fork name with a lock out as well which make for a better ride on paved surfaces and with a flip of a lever you are ready for those off road excursions. The higher in price you go for full suspension bikes the more features you get. Your $ 1500 makes it a bit difficult to get everything you want.

KTM or any of the Japanese bikes are all good and really the best one for you would be the one you feel most comfortable and confident on. To say more than that is just preference based on how someone else feels on their bike.

Spend the time to go to dealers and sit on them yourself and one of them will stand out for you…

What’s the best cyclocross bike?

Question: What’s the best cyclocross bike?
I’m looking for a cyclocross road bike. I need a bike that can go fast on the paved roads but can also handle dirt trails, grass, bumps and wet conditions. Any suggestions? Which brand makes the best cyclocross bikes (Specialized, Felt, Trek, etc.)?? Please explain why you think they’re the best too if you can.

Answer:

Answer by Terrence B
I don’t think that anyone can answer that question fairly. It’a a matter if each individual’s opinion and taste. That’s like saying that Trek makes the best road bikes because Lance won seven Tour de France victories on Treks. The correct answer is the one that fits you best. All of these are reputable companies that make high quality bikes and the ride and fit is what makes it the best cyclocross bike to the individual. The construction on each could be different but what works for you doesn’t necessarily work for someone else.

Where is the best place in Northern India for Mountain biking?

Question: Where is the best place in Northern India for Mountain biking?
On the map it looks like good mountains near Chandigarh, or up in Kashmir. Can I fly into any of these places from Delhi, then get a local hotel and rent a mountain bike for a day or two on the weekend?

Answer:

Answer by varungathani
well to be quite frank .. Mountain Biking isnt more of an aspired outdoor activity practiced buy a very few number of people .. Hence getting a bike to be rented out might be a bit difficult .. however .. if you are put up ar a goot hotel and request them to pull a few strings there is a possibility for them to arrange a consumer level bike if not else …But on paper its not something you’ll find on their web page or advertised around.

As per places .. well you have quite a frew options . . if you want something scenic I would recommend a place called Ladak. Its very close to the Indian Border and also very scenic.

Second Option is to travel to NORTH EAST … ASSAM- gauhati where its a city on the mountains and u can realistically get a mountain bike out there ..

I know you looking to rent out a bike .. but push come to shove you can buy a half decent mountain bike for close to Rs 3000. And make a deal with the retailer if he;d buy it back after a few weeks for whatever price.

As Far as mountains Go north is full of those you can simply pic more convenient location closer to Delhi as well if you choose to.

Hope this helps.
